Actors Nayanthara, R. Madhavan, and Siddharth Malhotra are all set to share the screen in S. Sashikanth’s upcoming directorial Test. On Thursday, Netflix announced that the sports drama, which began production in 2023, will skip a theatrical release and go straight to the OTT platform, with a release date of April 4.
“Namma vaazhkaila thiruppu munaiya oru tharunam varum. Adhuku per dhan TEST (There comes a turning point in our lives. That moment is called TEST),” the caption reads. The Tamil film will also be available to view in Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
The announcement has thrilled fans, one commenting, “Testing our patience with this one...can't wait :),” while another wrote, “Can't wait to watch the magic”.
The official synopsis of Test reads: "In a game where the stakes are personal and the consequences unforgettable, every move matters. One moment, one choice – that’s all it takes to be the hero or the villain. This unmissable Tamil film isn’t just about the game; it’s about the TEST life throws at you''.
The cast will also include Meera Jasmine and Kaali Venkat. Test marks Jasmine’s return to Tamil cinema after a decade-long hiatus, with her last Tamil appearance in Paarthi’s sci-fi directorial Vingyani.
Although the production of Test started in 2023, the film’s genesis dates back to 2015, when director Sashikanth wanted to make his directorial debut and crafted a script for the film. Much like the title suggests, the story will focus on a test cricket match. Sashikanth co-wrote the script with Suman Kumar (The Family Man).
Test is bankrolled by Sashikanth’s production company YNOT Studios, with music composed by playback singer Shakthisree Gopalan.
