'Nothing wrong with asking people for work; I've done it': Bobby Deol

The 'Animal' and 'Aashram' actor once went through a bad phase, and recalled the times he knocked on several doors asking people to give him work

Bobby Deol is a busy actor these days. With multiple films across languages, such as Love Hostel, Animal, Class of 83, Kanguva, and Daaku Maharaj, in addition to the new seasons of Aashram, Deol is in an enviable position. However, this was not always the case.

In an interview with India Today, the actor said he did not let his Deol surname get in the way when it came to asking others for work because, as far as actors are concerned, the situation today is not the same as it was before. "It was different when I started, as people would offer me work by themselves. Then the population of actors increased, and it's sad that we forget that there are so many people coming in, and will continue to."

Deol recalled that time when he experienced a bad phase, during which he didn't have a problem asking others for work. "I have knocked on doors and told them I am Bobby Deol, and please give me work. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, as you need work. At least they will remember that Bobby Deol had come to meet me. This also gets translated to work sometimes. So, there is nothing to be ashamed of," said the actor, who is part of Tamil superstar Vijay's upcoming Jana Nayagan and Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hari Veera Mallu - Part 1.

In an old episode of Koffee with Karan, Deol had mentioned going through a self-pity phase and taking refuge in the bottle. He had said, "I was just sitting at home, and I used to keep cursing and saying, ‘Why don’t people take me? I am good.’ I think I became very negative about everything. I used to sit at home, and my wife would work. And, suddenly, I heard my son saying, ‘Mom, papa sits at home, and you go to work every day.’ And then something snapped in me, and I said, ‘No, I can’t do this anymore’.”

In the past, actors like Neena Gupta and Sikandar Kher have said that they, too, have asked others for work and not felt ashamed about it.
