It seems there is some momentum on the new standalone Star Wars movie helmed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy) and headlined by Ryan Gosling (Drive, La La Land).
In her latest interview with Deadline, current Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy revealed that she is producing the live-action film, a standalone property, just like "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "Solo".
While it's not yet clear whether it's being developed as a sequel-worthy project, Kennedy has shared that the film is set five or six years after Episode 9, that is, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It will feature new characters and may include some characters from the sequel saga.
Yet untitled, it most likely will be the next Star Wars film that fans of the franchise will get to see.
Kennedy also revealed that she is producing The Mandalorian and Grogu, a live-action film that continues the story of the series The Mandalorian, starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter.
As of now, Lucasfilm has three seasons of The Mandalorian, single seasons of The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Acolyte, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew, in addition to the critically acclaimed Andor (with an upcoming second season), in its live-action stable.
Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling, last seen in The Fall Guy with Emily Blunt, leads the new science fiction epic Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who contributed to the script of the two immensely successful Spider-Verse films.
Gosling would be a natural fit for the Star Wars universe given his recent involvement with other popular sci-fi properties like Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve's sequel to Ridley Scott's cult sci-film starring Harrison Ford.
