During a pre-release event to promote her new film Thandel, co-starring Naga Chaitanya, and directed by Chandoo Mondeti, actress Sai Pallavi spoke highly of writer-director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, of Arjun Reddy and Animal fame.

The Premam and Gargi actress thanked Vanga for attending the event and praised him for his "unfiltered" voice on and off-screen.

“Every director should have a voice within them, and yours is so unfiltered on screen, and even with your interviews and wherever you go. There’s absolutely no filter, and it’s so nice and refreshing to see someone who isn’t influenced by a lot of things around," she said, adding that people sometimes change themselves to please others or get opportunities. "But as human beings, sometimes when you are so unapologetically yourself, it is a revelation on its own. You feel that everything happens for the best, and when your passion is in the right place, like how you've gone from Arjun Reddy, and you've done a film up north, and right now you're doing a bigger film... people look forward to your movies. That, I think, is such a big thing."

Vanga's last film Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Tripti Dimrii, turned out to be one of Indian cinema's biggest hits, with a worldwide gross of above Rs. 900 crore.

Despite its humungous success, though, the film got mixed reviews from critics, aside from getting lambasted by certain sections of the audience for its repulsive characters, glorification of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and graphic violence.

Filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Ram Gopal Varma have confessed their love and admiration for the film and Vanga's filmmaking approach.

Vanga announced a sequel, titled Animal Park, in the post-credits scene. He is expected to start working on it after he completes his Prabhas-starrer Spirit.
