Not only is Priyanka Chopra one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, but she has also earned herself quite a reputation in the West too. Now, filmmaker Anil Sharma revealed that Chopra almost dropped out of the film industry because of a medical error.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan for his YouTube channel, Sharma recalled reading reports that the former Miss World had gotten a nose job to look more like Hollywood actress Julia Roberts but realised he was wrong when she revealed that the procedure had simply gone wrong.

“At that time, I had already given her a token of Rs 5 lakh (for The Hero – Love Story of a Spy). She came with the cheque. She said, “I have been fired and now I am moving back to Bareilly. They said they were waiting to give my money back”. I said you keep the money and I scolded her a bit. She then told me what actually happened with her nose.”

Sharma also revealed that her family had moved back to Bareilly to help Chopra. “They thought it would take some time for Priyanka to heal, so they would come back after a year or so. They were paying so much rent here, and they were regular people, not like Ambanis. I told them to stop.”

The Gadar director was adamant to find a solution to make Chopra stay on set. “I called a veteran makeup artist from YRF to address her appearance issues. Afterward, we worked on her costumes with Neeta Lulla and retook her screen test. The results were incredible. It wasn’t her fault that her surgery went wrong; if it could be fixed, why not?"

Chopra starred alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in Sharma’s directorial The Hero – Love Story of a Spy. The film was the third highest-grossing film of 2003, behind Koi... Mil Gaya and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
