Kalki 2898: Netizens can't get enough of Amitabh as young Ashwatthama

A teaser for director Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD is out. It features actor Amitabh Bachchan's blink-and-miss still as a young Ashwatthama. And the internet can't get over it. Ashwatthama, a character from Indian mythology is known for being immortal.

The teaser begins with a young boy entering, what looks like a temple, where Ashwatthama sits contemplating. The boy asks him, 'Who are you?' A brooding Bachchan eventually answers, “I'm the son of Guru Drona, Ashwatthama.” In his young avatar, Bachchan sports a moustache, long hair and a glowing yellow stone, which could be what makes him immortal.

The actor's daughter, Shweta Nanda commented, “Can't wait!”. “At 81 Amit ji keep bringing us new content and roles he never done before. Ladies & Gentlemen, he is The Amitabh Bachchan, the best actor in the world. No one before him ... no one after. The real Shahenshah of Hindi cinema,” commented another user. Bachchan's son, Abhishek, shared the reel on his Instagram stories and wrote, “THE BOSS.” Navya Naveli Nanda, on Sunday night, shared the actor's look from the film and wrote, “He's here”. Yet another user commented, “Respect button Amitabh Bachchan”.

On Sunday, Bachchan shared a poster of the film, which had him looking like a mystic, clad in an all-white attire, with only his eyes showing. In the teaser, Bachchan says, “I have been waiting for this for a long time. Time has come for my final battle.”

Kalki 2898 AD is a futuristic sci-fi film; it revolves around the Kalki avatar of Vishnu. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it was the first Indian film to be presented at the San Diego Comic-Con. Made on a budget of Rs 600 crore, it is the most expensive Indian film ever made. Helmed by Prabhas, the movie also stars Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani and Mrunal Thakur. It is set to release in theatres on May 9.
