The 2001 film, Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon is set to be turned into a television series with Prime Video. Witherspoon would be executive producer along with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, according to a Variety report. Schwartz and Savage, known for writing the hit series Gossip Girl, will also be writing the spin-off.
Marc Platt, a producer on the film series will also onboard as executive producer. Amazon has been looking to develop something new after having gained valuable IP following its acquisition of MGM in 2022. Other projects that might be in consideration include 'Robocop' and 'Barbershop'.
The first film in the franchise was about Ellen Woods, played by Witherspoon. Woods, a sorority girl, who attends Harvard Law School to prove to her ex-boyfriend, that she is much more than her looks and inclination towards fashion.
The movie was a huge success at the box office and a sequel was released in 2003. In 2007, Legally Blonde, the musical debuted on Broadway-- it went on to receive Tony and Drama Desk nominations. Schwartz, a co-writer for the series has also worked on The OC, another popular teen drama. Details of the plot have been kept under wraps.
