Reports had surfaced on Wednesday morning that the ‘Oops!... I Did It Again’ singer, Britney Spears is gearing up for the preparation of a new album, with the help of musicians Charli XCX and Julia Michaels.
Spears shut down the rumours on Instagram. “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!!”, the singer said. “They keep saying that I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!” she wrote
She says that even though people have read her memoir – ‘The Woman in Me’ released in October 2023 — there is still a lot that the general public doesn’t know about her. She claims to have written over 20 songs for others in the past two years. “I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”
Along with the growing rumours of a new album, she also shut down rumours that her book was published without her approval. “That is far from the truth” she states.
The 42-year-old captioned this statement to a post of an Italian Renaissance painting ‘Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist.’
A day after she posted her statement, she seems to have deleted her Instagram account, again. She has deleted and rejoined the social media app multiple times in 2023.
Spears was undoubtedly an early 2000s superstar. She was dubbed as the 'Princess of Pop', with hit songs such as ‘Toxic’, ‘…Baby One More Time’, ‘Gimme More’, ‘Circus’, ‘Criminal’, and many more.
Her fall from grace began when she was placed under the conservatorship of her father James 'Jamie' Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet, in early 2008. The 13-year conservatorship ended in 2021.
She went on to release her memoir, discussing her childhood and rise to fame, detailing her conservatorship, and even her old relationship with singer Justin Timberlake.
Her ninth, and last, studio album, ‘Glory’, was released in 2016.
