Actors who made a comeback with OTT

Despite doing movies like Yuva and Guru, Abhishek Bachchan's career didn't take off

Actor Bobby Deol on the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, said that he will be a part of the debut project of Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan. Bobby Deol and his brother Sunny Deol appeared on the chat show, where they got candid about everything from Bobby on how he handled a low phase in his life to Sunny on what he doesn't like about Shah Rukh Khan. 

Bobby Deol also revealed that he will be a part of Aryan Khan's directorial debut, Stardom, which is slated to be a direct-to-OTT release. “I think I have a relationship with Red Chillies. First I did Class of 83', now Aryan's show and then I also did Love Hostel. I think they've always given me good stuff,” said Bobby said on the show. The series is also written by Aryan Khan. 

Bobby Deol, who debuted with the movie Barsaat in 1995, had a few hits like Soldier and Gupt. His career after that, however, was sporadic. It took off in recent years, especially after Ashram, a mystery series came out in 2020. He is now set to make an appearance in Animal, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. 

Here are other actors whose careers got a new lease of life thanks to projects on OTT platforms.

Abhishek Bachchan: Abhishek Bachchan made a memorable debut opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in Refugee. He went on to do movies like Guru and Yuva. Even then, his career didn't quite take off. His career took a U-turn of sorts in 2020 after he starred in Breathe: Into the Shadows, a series that streamed on Prime Video. In the same year, his movies Dasvi and Ludo were released on Netflix. He then went on to star in Ghoomer. In the pipeline is Be Happy, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Nora Fatehi, and Hera Pheri 3.

Sushmita Sen: Sushmita Sen debuted with Zor in 1997. She starred in some hits like Biwi No.1 and Main Hoon Na. But after that, her career went into a lull. In 2020, things started looking up when she starred in Aarya, a series on Disney Hotstar +. After that, she has starred in Taali, which is streaming on Jio Cinema. The series has been well received. 

Vivek Oberoi: Vivek Oberoi's last hit was Grand Masti in 2013. after that, the actor has played characters with shades of grey in Tamil and Malayalam movies like Vivegam and Lucifer. But things really took a turn for the good after he appeared in Inside Edge in 2017, on Amazon Prime. He then was cast as a police inspector in Kaduva starring Prithviraj. He is currently a part of Dharavi Bank, an OTT series produced by Zee Studios, which also stars Suneil Shetty.

Madhuri Dixit: Madhuri Dixit's last hit was Dedh Ishqiya in 2014. she made a comeback on OTT with The Fame Game, a show streaming on Netflix, that delves into issues like domestic violence and family conflict. She also starred in the 2022 movie Maja Ma, which won her accolades for playing a queer woman, who is married to a man.

Arshad Warsi: Arshad Warsi's last hit movie was Dedh Ishqiya in 2014. after that, his Bollywood career went into a lull. He managed to revive it after he starred in Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side, a thriller series streaming on JioCinema. The series has been a hit. He has also appeared in an episode of Modern Love: Mumbai and is the narrator for the comedy series streaming on Netflix, Choona.
