R Madhavan named new president of Film and Television Institute of India

Popular actor R. Madhavan has been nominated as the new president of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and chairman of its governing council. He will replace noted filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

Union minister Anurag Thakur took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the appointment and congratulate the actor-director.

"Heartiest congratulations to @ActorMadhavan ji on being nominated as President of @FTIIOfficial and Chairman of the governing council.I'm sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes, & take it to a higher level. My best wishes to you (sic)," he wrote.

Replying to the Union minister's tweet, the actor said he will do his best to live up to the expectations.

"Thank you so very much for the honor and kind wishes @ianuragthakur Ji. I will do my very best to live up to all the expectations," he wrote.

Madhavan's directorial debut, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, had won the Natonal Award for the best feature film recently.
