Will Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' beat 'Ponniyin Selvan: I' to become highest-grossing movie in Tamil Nadu?

Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar's cameos, Tamannaah's 'Kaavaalaa' dance have won hearts

Box office 'PS1' became the highest grossing movie in Tamil Nadu in October 2022 and now 'Jailer' could break that record

Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' could soon beat Mani Ratnam's 2022 blockbuster 'Ponniyin Selvan: I' and turn into highest-grossing movie in Tamil Nadu, according to industry insiders.

Early estimates revealed that 'Jailer' ninth day India box office collection stood at Rs 9 crore. This makes the total collection Rs 245 crore. The film might mint Rs 16 crore in India on Saturday, its 10th day of release, reported Sacnilk.com.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said the Rajinikanth starrer is on the way to become the highest-grossing movie in Tamil Nadu. In a tweet on Saturday, Bala wrote, “In June of 2022, #Vikram became the New Highest Grossing Movie in TN.. In October of 2022, #PS1 became the New Highest Grossing Movie in TN.. Now, #Jailer is racing towards the New Highest Grossing Movie in TN..”

In another post on X.com, he said 'Jailer' became the second Tamil movie to cross the Rs 50 crore gross milestone at the Karnataka box office. This could be largely due to a cameo by Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar in the movie. The first Tamil movie to reach the club was 2018 movies '2.0'.

He also tweeted that 'Jailer' surpassed Kamal Haasan starrer 'Vikram' to become all-time No.1 Tamil movie in Kerala. Interestingly, 'Vikram' starred young Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil in a major role, while 'Jailer' has a much-anticipated cameo by Kerala superstar Mohanlal, driving many of his fans to the theatres.

The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, which opened big by minting Rs 150 crore in the first weekend across 450 screens, had raked in Rs 234 crore by Independence Day.

Earlier tweets by Bala said he is expecting the movies to cross the $5 million mark in the US on August 19 and Jailer is still at No.1 in the UAE even in its second weekend despite new releases.

Separately, Rajinikanth is expected to meet UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Saturday at 7 pm. They will reportedly watch 'Jailer' during a special screening.
