Parveen Babi to Manmohan Singh: Indians who appeared on TIME magazine cover

In 1976, Parveen Babi became the first Indian to be featured on the cover of TIME

Actor Deepika Padukone is the latest Indian personality to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine. In her cover interview with the US-based magazine, the actor addressed being in the eye of the storm over Padmaavat for allegedly distorting historical facts and more recently, dealing with allegations of hurting religious sentiments by wearing a 'saffron' bikini as a Pakistani spy in Pathaan song Besharam Rang

Padukone, who shared a behind-the-scenes video of the cover shoot on Instagram, isn't the first Indian to be featured on the cover of the TIME magazine. Here's a complete list from Parveen Babi to former PM Manmohan Singh.

In 1976, Parveen Babi became the first Indian to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine. Babi was part of a feature titled 'Asia's Frenetic Film Scene'. After her, former Miss India Aishwarya Rai was featured on the cover in 2003.

Then, in 2004, megastar Shah Rukh Khan graced the cover. Khan had delivered three hits back to back-- Veer Zaara, Swades and Main Hoon Na. He was also featured on TIME's Asia’s Heroes: 20 under 40. 

In 2012, three Indians were featured on the cover of TIME magazine-- former prime minister Manmohan Singh, actor Aamir Khan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar was dubbed the 'God of Cricket' by the magazine. Khan's edition was titled 'Khan's Quest' and Singh was called 'The Underacheiver'.

Then, in 2016, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas was featured on the cover. This was post her Hollywood debut with Quantico.
