Not Dadasaheb Phalke biopic, but '3 Idiots' sequel next for Aamir Khan

Rajkumar Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi, who worked together on the successes "Lage Raho Munnabhai", "PK", and "Sanju", are once again teaming up for a story that has impressed Aamir Khan

Recently, news of Aamir Khan starring in a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke was doing the rounds. However, in a new interview, the actor confirmed that the plan has been put on hold as director Rajkumar Hirani, with whom he collaborated on "3 Idiots" and "PK", will take a while longer to polish the script as he wasn't yet satisfied with it.

But there's good news for "3 Idiots" fans, though. Aamir shared in the interview with Amar Ujala that Hirani has made the sequel his current priority. It is officially a go, as per the actor, who expressed his delight at how the story — set 10 years after the events of the first — has turned out.

"I have heard the story; it's turned out very well. The scripting is currently in progress, but it contains the original's humour, aside from being an unusual idea,” he said, adding that the sequel will find the characters at a different phase in their lives. “The characters are the same, but after a decade. I'll start working on it soon."

The sequel will once again be penned by Hirani and his frequent collaborator Abhijat Joshi. The duo collaborated on other hits, such as "Lage Raho Munnabhai", "PK", and "Sanju".

As for the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic, the project has been a passion project for Hirani, who has been working on the project for over four years. It would be set against the backdrop of India's independence struggle and will chronicle the extraordinary journey of the man who laid the foundation of Indian cinema.

Meanwhile, Aamir is awaiting the release of his latest production, "Ek Din", starring son Junaid Khan. Acclaimed South Indian actress Sai Pallavi makes her Hindi-language debut with the film, which is the Indian remake of the 2016 Thai film "One Day".
