'Naatu Naatu,' the peppy track from S S Rajamouli's blockbuster movie 'RRR,' has won the Golden Globes for Best Original Song. This makes the Telugu movie a hot favourite to win the Oscars too where it has been nominated for the same category.

Music director MM Keeravani, and singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj were nominated in this category.

As soon as the award was announced by actress Jenny Ortega, team RRR erupted in celebrations. Keeravani accepted the award for the team and thanked the team, especially Rajamouli for his "vision".

"It has been an ages old practice to say that this award actually belongs to someone else. So I was planning to not say those words when I get an award like this, but I'm sorry to say that I'm going to repeat the tradition because I mean my words. This award belongs to, in order of priority, my brother and the director of the movie, SS Rajamouli for his vision. I thank him for this constant trust in my work and support," Keeravani said.

The veteran music composer also thanked the team behind the track -- choreographer Prem Rakshith, lyricist Chandrabose and singers Sipligunj and Bhairava. "And NT Rama Rao Jr and Ram Charan for dancing with full stamina for the song," he said.

Other nominations in the Best Original Song category were ‘Carolina’ (Taylor Swift) from Where the Crawdads Sing, ‘Ciao Papa’ (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro) – Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, ‘Hold My Hand’ (Lady Gaga, BloodPop, and Benjamin Rice) – Top Gun: Maverick and ‘Lift Me Up’ (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson) – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Though RRR was also in contention for the Best Non-English Language Film at the Golden Globes, it lost to Argentina’s historical drama 'Argentina, 1985'. Other contenders for the award were Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Korean romantic mystery film Decision To Leave, German anti-war drama All Quiet on the Western Front and French-Dutch coming-of-age drama Close.

RRR is set in pre-Independence era in the 1920s around two real-life Telugu revolutionaries - Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Besides Ram Charan, Jr NTR, RRR also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in key roles.

The movie was critically and commercially acclaimed and reportedly made over Rs 1,200 crore at the global box office. It hit the screens last March and is reportedly the first Indian movie in over two decades to be nominated for the awards.
