The release of Bollywood film Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, has been postponed to June 2023. In a statement released on Monday, the makers clarified that the film's release has been pushed from January “in order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers”.
The Om Raut-directed was massively trolled for its teaser which was released recently. Social media users criticised the poor quality of the film's VFX. Adipurush is said to be a retelling of the epic Ramayana, with Prabhas essaying Lord Ram.
“Adipurush is not a film, but a representation of our devotion to Prabhu Sri Ram and commitment towards our sanskriti and history. In order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers, we need to give more time to the teams working on the film. Adipurush will now release on June 16, 2023. We are committed to make a film that India is proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going.”
In the wake of the backlash against the teaser, director Raut had said he was “disheartened”. Blaming the poor visuals on “cell phones”, Raut said he had envisioned the film for the big screen” You can cut it down to some extent but can’t bring it down to a mobile phone. That’s an environment I can’t control. Given a choice, I’d never put it on YouTube but that’s the need of the hour,” Raut told the Indian Express.
Adipurush is Raut's next outing his 2020 movie Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which recently won the National Award for Best Popular Film.
The multilingual mythological drama features Saif as the 10-headed demon king called Lankesh.
Adipurush had also landed in legal trouble after FIRs were filed against the makers and actors for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
