Director SS Rajamouli and the RRR team have officially kicked-off the Oscars campaign by adding the film into 14 categories in the 'For your Consideration (FYC)' campaign.

RRR had received positive reviews in the West, with international film magazine Variety predicting earlier that the film would be nominated in two categories. However, RRR was not selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards 2023—India's official selection is Gujarati film Chello Show.

RRR has been submitted in 14 categories—Best Motion Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt). Naatu Naatu has been submitted for Best Original Song, while MM Keeravani has been nominated for Best Original Score.

RRR’s Oscar campaign was officially launched last Friday with a massive screening at Los Angeles’ Chinese Theatre, the Indian Express reported. An independent campaign would hopefully get them a nomination.

The Telugu film, which was dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, chronicles a pre-Independence story woven around two Indian revolutionaries in the 1920s—Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film also featured Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in key roles.

Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Rajamouli said he had not expected the film to do so well among the western audience.

RRR, one of the most successful Indian films of 2022, minted over Rs 1,200 crore at the box office worldwide.
