Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has tested positive for COVID-19. She has mild symptoms and is doing fine, her niece Rachna told ANI.

“She has been kept in ICU only for precautionary reasons considering her age. Please respect our privacy and keep Didi in your prayers," she added. The 92-year-old singer was admitted to the hospital last year after she suffered from a chest infection.

Considered one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in 2001. Lata Mangeshkar is also the recipient of several awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.

The veteran singer is the last celebrity to test positive for the coronavirus in Mumbai as cases spike in the state.

India logged 1,68,063 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,58,75,790. This includes 4,461 cases of the Omicron variant, of which Maharashtra recorded the maximum (1,247).
