Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali has been trending due to some disturbing revelations in a recent interview. The Pakistan-born actress who is now based in the US said the was sexually abused when she was five years old.

In an interview to Peepingmoon, she said: The first time I was sexually abused in Pakistan, I was five years old. There were three incidents in the servant's quarters. I told my mum and dad, actions were taken. But what my parents told me is that 'Beta yeh kisiko batana nahi' [do not tell this to anyone]. In my head, I lived with that for years. I thought, 'Did I do something wrong? Why was I told by my parents?' Pakistan and Indian cultures are very image-based. They were protecting me but I didn't understand it. Again, there was an incident at nine, then again at 14."

Somi, who quit the acting career, currently runs a non-profit organisation named 'No More Tears' in the US for rape victims and children who are sexually abused. She also lauded Deepika Padukone and others who have spoken publicly about depression and the importance of good mental health.

Speaking about her stint in Bollywood, she called herself a ‘pathetic actor’ and the ‘worst dancer’. “I myself am shocked on how I did 10 films. From Salman to Sanjay, to Saif to Chunky, to Govinda, to Mithun da, late Om Puri Ji, I send them my heartiest apologies for dealing with me as an actor and especially Mithun da with whom I did four films; he was so patient with me. Sunil, I am so sorry, I was the worst dancer,” she said.
