Bollywood star Salman Khan expressed his views on the ongoing farmer protests. The actor simply said, “The right thing should be done. The most correct thing should be done. The most noble thing should be done," walking delicately on the issue that has become a topic of controversy.

Salman is the first of the big Khans to comment on the issue. Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, who have been receiving calls to comment on the agitation have refrained from commenting so far.

Thousands of farmers from the regions of UP, Haryana and Punjab have been camping Delhi's borders demanding the new farm laws be repealed, which the farmers say will leave them at the mercy of corporates. The protests began late November.

On Thursday, after celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Lata Mangeshkar, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and others rallied around the government with similarly worded tweets, other in the industry like film director Onir, actors Taapsee Pannu and Arjun Mathur criticised them.

Singer and actor Rihanna on Wednesday tweeted in support of the farmers in India. Following her tweet, climate activist Greta Thunberg, niece of US Vice President Meena Harris, actors Amanda Cerni, singers Jay Sean and Dr Zeus tweeted supporting the protests.

Former adult star Mia Khalifa on Friday said she is “still standing with the farmers” after her comments, criticising the treatment being meted to the protesting farmers, drew sharp reactions.

In a subsequent tweet on Wednesday, the Lebanese American artiste had also slammed those who called farmers “paid actors”.
