Singer Adnan Sami has criticised a tweet targeting the great Lata Mangeshkar that said she doesn’t have a good voice. He advised the user that it is better to stay silent than “appear stupid” with unsubstantiated claims.

A Twitter user by the handle @ikaveri implied that the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was over-rated, tweeting that Indians had been brainwashed into thinking that she has a good voice.

“Indians have been brainwashed into thinking that Lata Mangeshkar has a good voice,” the tweet read.

Quote-tweeting this, Adnan replied that a monkey wouldn’t know the great taste of ginger. “‘Bandar Kya Jaane Adrak Ka Swaad’....It’s better to stay silent and appear stupid than to open your mouth & remove all doubt!!”

The user, however, continued the debate over Mangeshkar’s singing prowess, saying that the “high notes in her voice are painful”. It was clear from her tweet, which read “*sets bait and waits with a fly swat*”, that she expected backlash over her opinions.

The user further claimed that Mangeshkar “went on singing way beyond her shelf life”, and added that the singer is known to have been “vindictive and ruthless”.

“As for other musical greats heaping praise on her, it’s because she carried clout mostly. She’s known to have been pretty vindictive and ruthless. Nobody would have wanted to cross her because of the power she wielded,” another tweet read.

“I’m glad she didn’t sing for Umrao Jaan. Till Pakeezah she wasn’t that bad for me so I don’t mind too much. I’m fond of the OST of both these movies,” she further tweeted,

The topic ‘Lata Mangeshwar’ was soon seen trending on Twitter, with more than 6,000 tweets as many, like Sami, came to the defence of the celebrated singer and highlighted her achievements in her illustrious career. Some even shared links to Mangeshkar’s most popular songs, pointing out that it’s unacceptable to speak ill of her “golden voice”.

Adnan Sami also shared a picture on Instagram of Lata Mangeshkar posing with her sister Asha Bhosle and Pakistani singer Noor Jehan.

“What an Iconic & Historic Photo!” he cationed the photo, tagging the accounts of both Mangeshkar and Bhosle.
