Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, and Dhanush’s Asuran will be selected at the Golden Globes 2021 in the Best Foreign Film category. Director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu, which is India’s official entry for Oscars 2021 will also be screened at the event.
Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, featuring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali, garnered good reviews after it premiered on Amazon Prime Video recently. The film is based on the life of budget airlines Air Deccan founder Captain Gopinath.
Asuran, directed by Vetrimaaran, features Dhanush and Manju Warrier in the lead. The 2019 film also opened to wide critical acclaim for its strong portrayal of caste-based violence.
Other Indian films include Prateek Vats’s Eeb Allay Ooo!, Shyam Madiraju’s Harami, Om Raut’s Tanhaji, Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple, Anurag Basu’s Ludo, Kislay’s Just Like That and Bijukumar Damodaran’s Trees Under the Sun.
