Bollywood’s first Covid-19 case: Singer Kanika Kapoor tests positive

Singer Kanika Kapoor has tested positive for the coronavirus disease, making her the first Bollywood celebrity to contract the disease.

In a statement released on Instagram, the ‘Baby Doll’ singer said: For the past 4 days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for covid-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward.”

“Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway as well. I was scanned at the airport as per normal procedure 10 days ago when I came back home, the symptoms have developed only 4 days ago,” she added.

The singer, who had reportedly returned after from the UK on Sunday, has advised people to practice self-isolation. Without naming the singer, ANI reported that she was among the four who tested positive in Lucknow on Friday. 

According to reports, she came back a hosted a lavish party which saw the attendance of many people. As the news came out, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to social media to slam the singer’s irresponsible behaviour. “Shame on U @TheKanikakapoor for being irresponsible by hiding ur details from the authorities, after U returned from #London & joining a party at a 5 star hotel, coming into contact with nearly 100 ppl. Now that U hv tested #CoronaVirus +ve, U hv put others’ life also in danger,” he tweeted. 

So far, India has reported four deaths with a total of 206 cases, as per the latest figures released by ICMR.

Globally, actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Daniel Dae Kim, former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju and Frozen 2 actress Rachel Matthews have tested positive for the disease that has brought the world, and the entertainment industry to a standstill.
