British actor Indira Varma, who shot to international acclaim with her portrayal of Ellaria Sand in the popular HBO show Game of Thrones, became the latest celebrity to fall victim to novel coronavirus.

The Kama Sutra actor is the second Game of Throne star to be diagnosed with COVID-19 after Kristofer Hivju who played Tormund Giantsbane in the show.

“I’m in bed with it and it’s not nice. Stay safe and healthy and be kind to your fellow people,” wrote Varma on Instagram.

"So sad our and so many other shows around the world have gone dark affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to be back soon and urge you all (and the govt) to support us when we do. Phoenix/ Seagull rising from the ashes. I’m in bed with it and it’s not nice. Stay safe and healthy and be kind to your fellow people," her post read.

Other Hollywood actors who have been tested positive for COVID-16 include Idris Elba, Tom Hanks, his wife and actor Rita Wilson and Olga Kurylenko.

COVID-19 cases are soaring across the world, with more than 2,00,000 confirmed since cases emerged in Wuhan late last year. The World Health Organisation said this month that COVID-19 proves deadly in 3.4 percent of confirmed cases.
