HBO's Chernobyl reeled in two awards: one for best supporting actress and another for outstanding writing. Phoebe Waller-Bridge won the outstanding lead actress in a TV series for her performance in Fleabag, an upset considering Julia Louis-Dreyfus was expected to win it for her performance in Veep. Game of Thrones has received a record 32 nominations.
Singer Halsey will lend her voice to this year's "In Memoriam" tribute at the 71st Primetime Emmys awards ceremony. The 'Without Me' hitmaker is set to deliver a simpler performance of a classic song during the 2019 show. Comic Thomas Lennon will be on the off-camera commentary duties during the ceremony for audiences at home while the winners head to the stage to accept their awards. While the ceremony will hostless, like this year's Oscars, actor Adam Devine will introduce the variety genre with a special performance created by Nappytabs' Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo.
Netflix's India Original series Sacred Games, anthology film Lust Stories and Amazon Prime Video's The Remix are nominated for International Emmy Awards. The second season of Sacred Games, starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has been nominated in the best drama category alongside Brazil's Contra Todos - season three, Germany's Bad Banks and UK's McMafia, which also features Siddiqui in a key role.
Director Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan directed the second season of Sacred Games while Vikramaditya Motwane served as a showrunner. Kashyap, who shared the news on his Instagram page, was also one of the directors of Lust Stories with Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar.
