Model Kendall Jenner has once again made headlines, this time in a sunset orange bodycon dress. On Tuesday Kendall made a simple trip to a New York City bodega. What sparked suspicions was that she bought a can of coke.
This would not have been such big a deal had it been any other coke can. What started conspiracy theories among her fans was the fact that she purchased the brand new Orange Vanilla Coke. The can perfectly mirrored the colour of her dress leading people to question whether she had been offered a deal by the Cola company.
What made this more interesting is that in 2017, Kendall acted in a Pepsi ad, Coke's biggest rival. The Pepsi ad had received serious backlash as it was seen as trivialising the Black Lives Matter movement.
Had Kendall switched teams? Had Kendall Jenner actually entered into a secret deal with Coca Cola? Was it a sponcon? The fact that the 23-year-old model/influencer posted a picture on Instagram from the store’s security camera added fuel to these questions as fans, who fancy themselves conspiracy theorists, said that she got the security cam footage just in case the paparazzi missed her.
A Coca-Cola spokesperson told the American media & entertainment company Refinery29, clarified that "Kendall Jenner is not paid by Coca-Cola and this was not a paid placement. There is nothing better than drinking an ice-cold Coke in the summer and clearly, Kendall agrees!”
Later that day, Kendall ran into Indian actress Deepika Padukone ( who has also had her share of backlash from starring in a Coca Cola ad) at the Anxiety Youth Centre Dinner at The Lowell in New York City. The two were all smiles as they posed for the photographers, both forgetting their previous soda sorrows.
Last week, the model was trolled on social media for posting a video where she appears to clean the makeup off her face in just ten seconds. Her fans on Twitter commented with a mix of awe and horror.
This week, Kendall seems to have toned it down with her latest look, a $198 leopard print dress from Reformation matched with black knee-high boots, sunglasses, minimalist gold jewellery and a cute baguette bag.
