Filmmakers seems to be trying to cash in on the upcoming general elections by releasing a slew of movies based on politicians or things related to politics. Besides the most talked about Modi biopic, there are also a few other 'political' movies set to hit theatres or small screens before and during the election days.

Besides PM Narendra Modi directed by Omung Kumar of Mary Kom fame and starring Vivek Oberoi as Narendra Modi, there is also a web series on the life and times of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, directed by Umesh Shukla of Oh My God and 102 Not Out fame. The web series, titled Modi: The Journey Of A Common Man, is likely to stream on Eros Now during the election season. Both the movies will showcase the journey of Narendra Modi from his early, humble years, his years as the chief ministers of Gujarat, to his victory in the 2014 general elections. The Modi biopic is set to hit theatres on April 5.

PM Modi is not the only leader getting a biopic ahead of the elections. There is a movie on Congress president Rahul Gandhi expected to hit the theatres in April. Titled 'My Name Is RaGa', the movie, directed by Rupesh Paul and stars Aswini Kumar in the lead, will focus on the life and works of the Congress chief.

Another political movie that is gearing up for release is Tashkent Files, an investigative thriller which revolves around the mysterious death of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The movie, which is written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, will have Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty in the lead.

While it is hard to say if any of these films will help the electoral prospects of the parties, these movies are expected to generate a lot of interest during their release. It would not be wrong to assume that the supporters of both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi would queue up to watch the reel avatars of their dear leaders even if the movies do not hold much promise in therms of plot. The initial pull is sure to get the cash registers ringing.
