Petta vs Viswasam: Here's how Ajith starrer may have an advantage over Rajinikanth film

via IMDb

Come Pongal, Tamil movie lovers are in for a big treat as two huge films are gearing up for release during the festival season.

While Rajinikanth starrer Petta will hit theatres on January 10, Viswasam, which has Ajith in the lead, was expected to be released on January 14. However, there are reports that the release of Viswasam may be advanced to January 10, thus setting the stage for a big clash between the two movies.

Previously, there was one such clash when multi-starrer Jilla and Ajith's Veeram hit the theatres simultaneously in 2014.

While it is certain that Petta and Viswasam may eat into each other's collections, Viswasam will be in an advantageous position because of its shorter runtime. According to media reports, while Viswasam will have a runtime of two hours and 30 minutes, the Rajinikanth movie will have a runtime of two hours and 50 minutes. A shorter runtime would mean that the theatres will be able to plan more shows.

Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, promises a throwback to the Rajini days of 90s, and has enough pulsating moments to suit the tastes of his younger band of fans. The two-and-a-half minute long trailer of the movie, which was released recently, is full of stylish action, catchy one liners and has the superstar shaking his legs to a few songs, a lot of which the fans have been missing since the 90s blockbusters like Baasha and Annamalai. The movie also boasts of an impressive line of stars including Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Simran and M. Sasikumar.

After Vivegam, Vedhalam and Veeram, Ajith teams up with Siva once again for Viswasam, which will be an action-packed family drama. The film also stars Nayanthara.
