Sanju, the Sanjay Dutt biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is having a great run at the box office. The film which features Ranbir Kapoor in the title role, has already garnered Rs 500 crore worldwide and is moving forward.

While Ranbir's performance in the film has been hailed by critics and audience alike, the biopic has also been accused of whitewashing Sanjay Dutt's controversial life and making him look like a hero. Though Sanju portrays various periods of Sanjay Dutt's life, his struggle with drugs, his mother's death and his rise to stardom, the film faced flak for only superficially dealing with the actor's connect to the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

It is amidst this criticism that filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma said he is working on another Sanjay Dutt biopic that will focus on the actor's arrest in the Mumbai serial blasts of 19993, and possession of the AK-56 rifle. He confirmed this to the Mumbai Mirror.
