Decrying the destruction of Periyar statue in Tamil Nadu, musician T.M. Krishna teamed up with writer Perumal Murugan to compose a protest song. On Tuesday, a statue of Dravidian ideologue Periyar E.V. Ramasamy was found beheaded in Pudukkottai, marking a resurgence in the statue violence that gripped the country ever since a statue of Lenin was taken down in Tripura.

Videos of two Lenin statues being razed to the ground led to sporadic violence in Tripura. Statue vandalism soon spread to other states, with a Periyar statue was found attacked in tamil Nadu's Vellore. Similar incidents were also reported in West Bengal and Kerala.

"Statues are art," sings Krishna in the video.
