Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth visited forward areas and formations of the Chinar Corps under the Northern Command to review operational preparedness and the prevailing security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the hinterland.
During the visit, commanders briefed the Army Chief on the prevailing security situation, the operational readiness of the forces and ongoing capability development initiatives. He was also apprised of measures instituted to maintain a robust security posture along the LoC and preparations for counter-terrorist operations in the hinterland.
The visit offered the COAS an assessment of the formations' readiness across the operational spectrum and the initiatives underway to strengthen their capabilities, according to a statement by the Indian Army.
During interactions with troops deployed in operational areas, General Seth commended all ranks for maintaining a high state of vigilance.
He also reiterated the thrust areas under "VIJAY", the five-point framework aimed at transforming the Indian Army into a future-ready force capable of responding at short notice across the full spectrum of operations.
General Seth coined the acronym after taking over as Army Chief as part of efforts to build a technology-enabled and future-ready Army. The letters stand for ‘Vigilance’, ‘Innovation’, ‘Jointness’ and ‘Integratio’n, ‘Aatmanirbharta’ and ‘Yodha First’.
The Army Chief also appreciated the coordination among the Indian Army, civil administration, Central Armed Police Forces, Jammu & Kashmir Police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and stability.
During his visit to Tangdhar, General Seth also visited the Advanced Surgical Eye Camp being conducted by the Indian Army under Operation Drishti 2026. The initiative provides specialised ophthalmic care to serving personnel, Veer Naris, veterans, dependents and civilians, particularly those living in remote and difficult-to-reach areas of Jammu & Kashmir.
Specialist teams from Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, and 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, are conducting the camp from September 23 to 30. More than 6,000 patients are being screened and over 400 ophthalmic surgeries are planned.
