BULLETIN: Apple, Amazon in talks with Saudi Arabia

Apple and Amazon are dealing with Saudi Arabia's foreign investment authority in order to obtain licenses to enter Saudi market. Luring Apple and Amazon would further Prince Mohammed's reform plans and raise the companies' profile in a young and relatively affluent market, which already boasts some of the highest internet and smartphone use in the world. About 70 percent of the Saudi population is under 30 and frequently glued to social media.

Facebook not collecting users' Aadhaar data

Facebook said that users are not requited to enter their Aadhaar name when they sign up to open a new account. The social media giant has around 22 crore monthly users in India. The clarification followed some news reports that Facebook was asking Indians to enter their names as mentioned in the Adhaar for when they sign up for a new account.

War of words between Turkey and Syria escalate

Syria hits back after Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan called Syrian President Bashar al Assad a terrorist. Syria's Foreign Ministry accused Erdogan of being "responsible" for spilling the blood of the Syrian people. President Erdogan on Wednesday said it was impossible for Syrian peace efforts to continue with him. "Assad is definitely a terrorist who has carried out state terrorism," Erdogan said.

Government trying to restart Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The Centre has raised the issue of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage through the Nathu La pas with China. The External Affairs Ministry had discussed the issue when Chinese foreign minister when he visited India early this month. China had stopped this year's Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Nathu La pass following the Doklam standoff in June.

Puducherry to host international sailing

A series of boat races will be held in Puducherry as part of the 'Bon Jour India' celebrations organised by the French government. The event titled 'Sailing the East Coast' regatta will be held from January 25 to 28, 2018. Sailors from various countries will participate. Chief Minster Narayanasamy said he would request the French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Puducherry during his trip to India.
