As vehicle manufacturers rush to capitalise on the growing demand in the EV market, electric-motorcycle manufacturer Ultraviolette has announced plans for a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company on Thursday said it would invest ₹779 crore to set up a new BIGGA (Big Global Ambition) Factory in Hosur.
Concerns over E20 petrol compatibility have driven up demand for electric vehicles, with EV two-wheeler sales crossing over 10 lakh in the first eight months of 2026.
Ultraviolette’s co-founder and CEO Narayan Subramaniam told PTI that the BIGGA factory will manufacture up to 2.5 lakh vehicles annually. He said that the production will be in a phased manner, and that the infrastructure of the factory is designed to withstand an increased production of up to 5,00,000 vehicles every year.
The investment, which spans over the next five years, will use limited debt and be funded through internal reserves, equity and future cash flow.
The new facility is expected to create approximately 2,000 job opportunities. This number is expected to increase over the next five years as production expands.
The BIGGA factory will manufacture Ultraviolette's electric scooter Tesseract. According to Reuters, the company expects Tesseract’s demand to reach at least 10,000 units a month, hinting that it can offer direct competition to the two-wheeler EV segment leaders, Ola Electric and Ather Energy.
Subramanium told Reuters that the company’s exports to Europe and Latin America account for about 15 per cent of sales, and this could rise to 25 per cent within five years. Ultraviolette aims to expand this manufacturing footprint with the BIGGA factory to support the company's next phase of growth in both India and international markets.
BIGGA factory is also expected to provide the infrastructure required to support the company's developing product portfolio. This includes its different two-wheeler categories: sports, crossover, cruiser, street, and scooters.
Over the years, Hosur in Tamil Nadu has emerged as a key manufacturing hub in the country, making it an attractive choice for Ultraviolette. The area provides a well-established automotive ecosystem, significant supply-chain advantages, and close proximity to Ultraviolette's R&D operations and existing supplier network.
