With IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers resigning from the post on Tuesday, the airline's Managing Director Rahul Bhatia will take over as its interim CEO.

"Rahul returns to assume management of the affairs of the airline to strengthen the company's Culture, reinforce operational excellence and deepen its commitment to delivering exceptional service of care, reliability and professionalism to its customers," InterGlobe Aviation Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said.

Bhatia will assume the role "until such time that the company announces the arrival of a new leader".

He cofounded IndiGo with Rakesh Gangwal in 2006. Later the duo had a fallout in 2019 and Gangwal stepped down from the board in 2022. Bhatia has a bachelors in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He had previously worked with IBM and United Airlines.
