As it stands now, India’s Union Budget for 2026–27 is scheduled to be presented on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 11 am in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

This makes it a rare Sunday budget sitting.

The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday (January 12) confirmed that the process of budget presentation will begin at 11 am in the Lower House on the first of February, as per the state-owned radio AIR.

The Budget Session of Parliament will run from January 28 to April 2, 2026, with Budget Day fixed within this window on the first day of the upcoming month, despite it being a Sunday.

Both public service broadcasters of Prasar Bharati, AIR and Doordarshan backed the date and the time.

At the recent International Indian Languages Conference in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also urged all Members of Parliament from different regions of the country to speak in their own languages during the Budget Session.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju confirmed the dates, posting on social media: "On the recommendation of the Government of India, Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026. The Session will commence on January 28, 2026 and continue till April 2, 2026."

If the schedule stands, 2026 will mark the second time the Union Budget will be presented on a Sunday. The only other time India saw a Budget presentation on a Sunday was when then-Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha presented the Union Budget on February 28, 1999.
