The Union Ministry of Communications published the overall telecom subscriber data of India as of the end of the first half of 2025 (June 30 2025).
The Department of Telecommunications data also revealed the top five broadband service providers in India as of June 30 2025, by subscriber numbers. Topping them was Ambani-led Jio, but a small player, ACT, took the fifth spot.
Here is the top five in terms of both wired and wireless broadband market share in the country…
1. Reliance Jio: 497.06 million subscribers
2. Bharti Airtel: 304.32 million subscribers
3. Vodafone Idea (Vi): 127.40 million subscribers
4. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL): 33.68 million subscribers
5. Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT): 2.33 million subscribers
These five contribute to 98.48 per cent of the country’s market share in broadband (both wired and wireless)
The total wireless (mobile and 5G FWA) subscribers rose 0.21 per cent to 1170.88 million at the end of June 2025, from 1168.42 million at the end of May 2025. As of June-end, wireless tele-density in India stood at 82.74 per cent—125.31 per cent in urban and 58.82 per cent in rural areas.
Mobile number portability and service areas
Another intriguing number from the published data was about Mobile Number Portability (MNP). In June alone, providers received a total of a whopping 13.58 million requests. Northern and Western India (MNP Zone-I) saw 7.47 million of those requests. Southern and Eastern India (MNP Zone-II) saw 6.11 million MNP requests.
According to government data, to date, the highest number of MNP requests came from Uttar Pradesh-East (117.63 million), then Maharashtra (93.66 million), followed by Madhya Pradesh (92.11 million) and Karnataka (75.28 million).
