Tesla Motors launched its first showroom at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on Tuesday, as the India website of the world’s most valued EV maker went live, revealing the cars on offer and their prices. It currently lists only the Model Y in two variants—Rear-wheel Drive starting at ₹61,07,190 on-road and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive starting at ₹69,15,190 in Mumbai.

THE WEEK had earlier reported on the possible launch, following the Elon Musk-led company importing inventory and vehicles worth over $1 million to the country.
In February this year, Elon Musk met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, shortly after which Tesla kicked off hiring employees in India, starting with 13 job openings—including customer care posts and back-end roles on the EV maker’s LinkedIn page.
Last week, Tesla received the green light from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Andheri, which issued a trade certificate to the EV manufacturer’s India arm, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited.

Following the opening of the Mumbai showroom, Tesla also plans to launch a network of charging stations across the country, starting with four in the city.
The next step, however, seems to be a second Experience Centre, this time in Delhi.
