John Distilleries Limited (JDL) has become the only Indian company to be awarded for its spirits, in three different categories in the London Spirits Competition, 2024.

While Paul John single malt whiskey ‘Nirvana’ has been awarded a gold medal, two other offerings – ‘Roulette London Dry Gin’ and ‘Paul John XO Brandy’ have won silver medals. This makes JDL the only Indian company to have been awarded in three different categories – whiskey, gin and brandy.

One of the most prestigious competitions of its kind in the world, the London Spirits Competition reflects both- the choice of consumers and trade buyers. Organised by the Beverage Trade Network judgement criteria include quality, value for money, and packaging appeal.

“We are honoured to have been awarded… It is indeed a privilege to be appreciated for the quality of our products,” said JDL Chairman and Managing Director Paul P John.

These are not JDL’s only awards. It has won handsomely in the International Wine and Spirit Competition, the World Whiskey Awards and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Of the awarded products, Paul John Nirvana is created from Indian six-row barley and matured in charred American oak casks. It has no added flavours or colours. It has aromas of caramel, bourbon and fruitcake, while its flavours include vanilla and sweet honeycomb.

Paul John XO is a 100% Indian grape brandy crafted from wine grapes and the Bangalore purple grape. The brandy is matured in specially selected, medium toasted new French limousine oak barrels. It has an orange zest and a touch of raisins.

Roulette dry gin has a juniper-forward profile, that makes it ideal for sipping or mixing. It uses all three distillation methods- steep and boil; vapour infusion; and vacuum gin distillation. It uses a German Muller Pot – the best technology for fully aromatic spirits. In addition a patented AROMAT technology allows for the extraction of a wide range of aromas.
