Spotify is set to take on streaming giant YouTube by rolling out full-length music videos. The feature will be initially available in beta version only for Premium subscribers in a few countries.
The company said the music videos will available to Premium users in the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Kenya.
Spotify said it aims to increase its user base with the new move with a target of one billion users by 2030.
A limited catalogue of music videos, including global artists like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat and local favourites like Aluna will be available in the roll-out, the company said. The feature can be accessed via the Now Playing screen.
In a blog post, Spotify said, "Spotify is where fans go to dive deeper into an artist’s music. So whether you’re a superfan who wants to rewatch the videos you love and share them with friends, or a casual fan on the lookout for new releases, music videos create a new point of connection with artists."
Who can access Spotify music video feature?
- You need to have premium subscription to access the music video feature.
- If you are in India, you will have to wait for Spotify to roll out the new feature in the country.
How to watch Spotify music videos?
- Log in to your Spotify premium account on iOS, Android, PC or TV.
- You can stream music videos directly from the Now Playing screen
- If you are listening to a song for which music video is available, you can click on 'Switch to Video' to watch the clip. However, one drawback is that the music video will play from the beginning, even if you were in the middle of a track.
- To view the music video in full screen, rotate the phone to landscape mode.
