The Karnataka transport department has come out with a new fare structure for app-based taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola as well as city taxis.

The government order stipulates that fares for app-based cab aggregators as well as city taxis would be uniform. The revised fares would be applicable across the state with immediate effect.

According to the new fare structure, cabs have been categorised into three classes, based on the cost of the vehicle.

The new fee structure

For vehicles that cost Rs 10 lakh or below, the minimum fare has been fixed at Rs 100 for up to four km. For every additional km, the charge would be Rs 24 each.

For vehicles that cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, the minimum fare is Rs 115, and the additional per km cost Rs 28.

For vehicles that cost above 15 lakh, the minimum fare is Rs 130. The additional fare would Rs 32 per km.

The government order strictly prohibits cab aggregators from collecting extra charges.

Waiting charges

According to the new order, there will be no waiting charge for the first five minutes. Rs 1 will be charged for every minute after the first five minutes of waiting time.

Besides, app-based aggregators can collect five per cent GST as well as toll charges from the passengers.

For cabs booked between 12 am and 6 am, operators can charge an extra 10 per cent, according to the order.
