Food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy and their respective subsidiaries, Blinkit and Instamart, made a killing on New Year's Eve as Indians feasted while ushering in 2024.
According to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, the food delivery platform delivered almost as many orders on New Year's Eve as it did on the same day in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined. "Fun fact: We've delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future!" Goyal tweeted.
"8422 orders were placed at 8:06 pm - that’s 140 orders every second," he said in a tweet.
Maharashtra topped the list of orders received, while in Kolkata, a customer ordered 125 items in a single order, Goyal said.
"Hit our all-time high orders in a day on @zomato. Immense gratitude to all," he said in another tweet.
Albinder Dhindsa, fo-founder and CEO of Zomato-owned quick commerce delivery platform Blinkit, said on X that it logged the highest-ever orders in a day and orders per minute.

Swiggy too received record orders. "NYE '24 broke all records across Swiggy Food and Instamart! With the team at the stroke of midnight - could not be happier!" tweeted Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor.
"The orders per minute (OPM) on Swiggy instamart is the highest we have seen so far. It’s surpassed our previous high during the WC Finals by 1.6x," he said in another tweet.
As Indians partied hard, the demand for tonic water, cocktail mixer and glasses increased 10-fold on Instamart, Kapoor said.
