Infosys, which announced its second quarter results on Thursday, came out strongly against moonlighting, with CEO Salil Parekh saying the company will have to let go of employees who take up dual jobs. "If the employees are doing blatant work in two specific companies where there is confidentiality issues, we have let go," he said.

Making it clear that the company does not support moonlighting, he said Infosys does support the aspirations of employees who want to learn beyond their work and added that "We are also developing more comprehensive policies for that while ensuring contractual and confidentiality committed are fully respected.”

He said the company's Accelerate programme helps its employees to take up other gigs within the company other than their normal work. “We have set up over the last several years, not now not last week, over the last several years, a platform which we call Accelerate to which employees can look at what we call internally gig work different projects outside of the main work.”

Parekh said the employees can take up other internal projects through Accelerate after taking prior permission from their managers.

A few days ago, Infosys had warned its employees against moonlighting, saying the practice is a violation of the company code of conduct.

Many of the IT giants, including Wipro and TCS, has been warning their employees against the practice. While Wipro executive chairman Rishad Premji called it “plain and simple cheating,” TCS chief HR officer Milind Lakkad called it an "ethical issue."
