Users have reported leading food aggregator Swiggy not working in many parts of the country on Wednesday. What seemed to be a server crash lasted for more than half-hour during peak lunch hour.

Down Detector, which monitors online performance parameters reported a little after 1.30 pm that Swiggy 'was having problems since 1.27 pm. The app was up and running by around 2 pm, after being out for more than half an hour.

Swiggy, on average, clocks more than 62,000 food orders per hour and had registered a record 9,000 orders per minute this new year's eve.

Many users took to Twitter to complain about the app not being accessible, or not being able to access the status of their orders after placing one. Interestingly, some orders on Swiggy's rival Zomato were being charged an additional surge surcharge during this period.

Kumar Bhogle, a software developer from Mumbai said the app went out after he made an order. "Should we wait for (the) food or order from (rival) Zomato," he wondered on social media. Another user, Piyush Dhupper, complained that after taking the order and making him wait for 50 minutes, the order got cancelled "due to operational issues."

Bengaluru-based Swiggy is one of India's initial crops of unicorn companies (start-ups with a valuation of more than a billion dollars). At its last valuation, this had shot up to 10 billion dollars. After rival Zomato's successful IPO listing last year, Swiggy is also expected to take to the bourses with a billion-dollar IPO pretty soon.

Swiggy is yet to come up with an official statement on the apparent outage.
