Hyundai Motor India unveiled a new version of its premium SUV Tucson at the Auto Expo in Noida on Wednesday. The bookings for the 2020 Hyundai Tucson is expected to start soon.
Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO SS Kim said the new Tucson comes with enhanced technology, design and performance. The Korean car manufacturer is looking to bolster its presence in the premium SUV segment.
“Hyundai constantly strives to upgrade its products and services with best-in-class technology that meet the evolving needs of today's customers and their rising aspirations,” he said. Kim added that the company's market share increased from 16.3 per cent to 17.3 per cent last year after the launch of four new products in different segments.
The new Tucson is BS-VI compliant and comes with 2-litre petrol and diesel variants. The petrol engine delivers 152 PS of power while the diesel gives 184PS. The diesel version also comes with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Other features also include all-wheel drive, automatic traction cornering control, power seats, connected features, infinity sound system, all-LED headlights and an 8-way powered passenger seat
Hyundai has sold over 6.5 million units of Tucson in markets like the US, Europe, South Korea and China so far.
Hyundai Motor India Director Sales and Marketing Tarun Garg said there is a clear shift happening towards SUV bodystyles with the segment now accounting for 24 per cent of the overall passenger vehicle volumes. Garg said that the Tucson has come in at a time that Hyundai has decided to bolster its presence in the premium SUV segment as well, citing that the company has a strong presence already in the mid-sized SUV segment with Creta and Venue.
The company is raising the benchmark with power and features in the Tucson, he added.
