CBSE to make CTET eligibility mandatory for teaching classes 9-12?

At present, the CTET exam is conducted for two levels, Paper I for classes 1 to 5 and Paper II for classes 6 to 8

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is working to make the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) mandatory for teachers of classes 9 to 12, as per media reports. 

This move is a part of the reforms proposed under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which calls for better teacher eligibility standards at all school levels, as per Shiksha.

At present, the CTET exam is conducted for two levels, Paper I for classes 1 to 5 and Paper II for classes 6 to 8. The eligibility criteria for an individual to teach classes 9 to 12 are B.Ed degree along with a post-graduation qualification in the relevant subject. 

According to media reports, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is preparing the draft guidelines for conducting CTET for higher classes, in consultation with CBSE.
