India defeated Bangladesh by 45 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Sent into bat, India scored 166 for six in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Bangladesh to 121 for seven at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Though Rohit Sharma (83 off 55) and Hardik Pandya (31 off 18 balls) stole the show, it was captain M.S. Dhoni who finished off the Indian innings in style, hitting a six off the last ball. Rohit suffered a heartbreak towards the fag end of the innings when he was caught out at the threshold of a century. Soumya Sarkar made a stunning dive to give the bragging rights to Al-Amin Hossian.
Sent to bat first, India had a poor start losing four wickets while scoring 97 after 15 overs.
The hosts got an early breakthrough when pacer Al-Amin Hossian eliminated opener Shikhar Dhawan on the second over of the match.
Next man in Virat Kohli too was short-lived. M. Mortaza claimed him in the fourth over, as India's limited over captain came down the track and tried to loft the ball. Mahmudullah caught him in the mid off, before removing Suresh Raina in his very first over.
Yuvaraj Singh was the fourth casualty, getting caught by Soumya Sarkar off a Shakib al Hasan delivery.
As far as the team composition goes, Virat Kohli replaced Ajinkya Rahane in the Indian team, which won 3-0 against Sri Lanka.
