Ruckus in Parliament, Jaitley says ready for talks on demonetisation

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said the government was ready to hold a discussion on demonetisation and declared that the note-ban was welcomed by people across the country.

"The whole country welcomed the step taken to curb the black money... We are ready to hold discussion on demonetisation," Jaitley said at a media briefing after the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) parliamentary body met.

"It was a major step and it required courage by the government to go ahead with it," he added.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had adjourned till noon after opposition raised an uproar over the demonetisation issue. 

The Congress had on Monday held a meeting with other like minded parties over the issue of demonetisation to unitedly mount pressure on the government, even as the AAP announced it will gherao Parliament on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended among others by leaders of Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal-United, Bahujan Samaj Party, CPI(M), CPI, NCP, RJD, JMM and DMK.
