Agartala, Nov 7 (PTI) The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally of Tripura's ruling BJP, on Saturday said that the state government has constituted an eight-member committee to examine the land issues within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

The land rights issue is among the important points in an accord the TMP signed with the Centre and the Tripura government for overall development of the indigenous people in March 2022.

However, details of the issue are not yet known.

Sharing the notification of the constitution of the committee for examination of the land issues on X, TMP founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said, “Another historic step towards ensuring that all stakeholders are consulted and their concerns addressed.”

“Our demand for land rights is about protecting our identity, safeguarding our future and securing the rights of future generations — it is not against anyone,” he said in the post.

The Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department will head the committee as convener, while other members include the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the TTAADC, and Secretaries of the Home Department and Revenue Department, and the Director of Land Records & Settlement Department.

Debbarma stated, “I welcome the decision to constitute a joint committee on land rights, as agreed during our discussions. Dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation must guide this process”.

According to him, the panel will submit its recommendations to the state government within the next month, after which talks on the implementation of the 'Tiprasa Accord' will move forward.

The TMP founder recently met Chief Minister Manik Saha and discussed the ways of implementing the accord.

The tribal council, constituted under Sixth Schedule, consists of two third geographical areas of the northeastern state.
