New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to provide devotees with spaces and ponds around Chhath ghats on the Yamuna floodplain, public spaces and parks for free.

Sandhu reviewed the DDA's preparedness for the festival.

"LG has instructed officials to ensure that the spaces and ponds identified for setting up Chhath ghats are thoroughly cleaned and spruced up before being handed over to devotees," DDA said in a statement.

Singh directed that adequate lighting arrangements be made at all sites.

"The allotment of these spaces should be carried out in a transparent manner, taking into account local requirements, past usage and demand from people observing the festival, particularly those from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh," the DDA added.

The LG also directed the DDA to deploy staff to facilitate arrangements and assist devotees during the festival.

He asked the authority to coordinate with Delhi government departments and agencies, including the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The DDA was also directed to ensure that the sites are cleaned and restored after Chhath.
