New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Gayatri Mantra was a path to complete transformation, asserting that it could awaken positive qualities in individuals and help bring out the best in them.

Addressing the Shatabdi Samaroh 2026 organised by the Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar here, Shah said many young people had benefited from the Gayatri Mantra, with improvements in positive thinking, courage, memory power, interpretation and decision-making abilities.

"Based on my experience, I believe the Gayatri Mantra is the path to complete transformation. It is not merely a religious or spiritual ritual," he said.

Shah said the 24 letters of the mantra were directly connected with 24 auspicious nodes and that awakening these powers could subdue negative qualities and bring out positive attributes.

"Taking the 24 letters of the Gayatri Mantra as the foundation and receiving the sanskar (values) of its pure pronunciation from one's Guru, if we awaken the 24 auspicious powers, the inauspicious powers lying within us are subdued and the auspicious powers emerge," he said.

The home minister said these 24 auspicious qualities included foresight, restraint, austerity, courage, discrimination, intellect, protection, production, service, vitality, love, valour and concentration.

He said that a person in whom these qualities developed would automatically find the path to liberation.

He credited Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya with taking the teachings of the Gayatri Mantra to 15 crore families across the world.

"By generating faith in the Gayatri Mantra and establishing the tradition of its pure pronunciation, he not only uplifted the lives of individuals but also gave Indian spirituality and spiritual power a new life for the next hundred years," Shah said.

The event marked 100 years of the birth of Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma and the manifestation of 'Akhand Jyoti' (uninterrupted flame), a statement from the Home Ministry said.

It also marked 100 years of the 'sadhana' of Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya, the statement said.

Shah said the three milestones represented the confluence of three sacred streams and described the year as a symbol of completeness for Indian culture and its spiritual journey.

"The flame that was lit 100 years ago has today become a symbol of welfare for countless people across more than 100 countries and in over 15 crore families," he said.

He further said in the four-day conference held in Haridwar this January, the entire Gayatri Pariwar had united and identified itself with the resolve of this Jyoti.

"Today, in the next stage of the same journey, two important events are taking place. The first is the 'Deep Mahayajna', which symbolises sacrifice, cooperation and dedication. Every lamp that is lit is a resolve that we shall use our strength for society, spirituality and the nation," he said.

Referring to the movement being carried forward by the Gayatri Pariwar, Shah said it was the duty of everyone to take it forward and guide the world towards righteousness.

"This duty is to gather the auspicious forces of the entire world and guide the world onto the path of righteousness. We must continue this work until the last moment of our lives," he said.

Union minister Durgadas Uikey, Gayatri Pariwar Dalnayak Dr. Chinmay Pandya and several other dignitaries were present at the ceremony, the statement said.
