Bengaluru, Oct 31 (PTI) A BMTC bus caught fire in Koramangala here on Saturday, officials said.
However, no passengers sustained any injuries in the accident, they said.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 am when the bus, operated by Depot-15, was en route from Hoodi to K R Market, they said.
According to a statement issued by BMTC, while the bus was operating on its scheduled route, smoke was noticed inside the vehicle. Acting promptly, the driver brought the bus to a safe halt and ensured that all passengers disembarked immediately.
The driver and conductor then used the fire extinguisher available on the bus and alerted the Fire and Emergency Services, it said.
The Fire and Emergency Services personnel arrived at the spot and brought the fire under control.
According to the initial assessment by BMTC’s Mechanical Engineering Department, a possible electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. However, the exact cause has not yet been established.
"BMTC has contacted the concerned officials of Eicher, the vehicle manufacturer. The Eicher technical team is expected to visit on Monday, November 2, to conduct a joint technical inspection along with BMTC’s engineering team," it said.
The inspection will help determine the precise cause of the incident and identify any technical defects, if present. Based on the findings, appropriate corrective measures will be undertaken, it said.
BMTC reiterated that passenger safety remains its foremost priority and that the incident is being examined in coordination with the vehicle manufacturer to establish the cause and take necessary follow-up action.
